What are your intentions for 2019?  Are your reflecting back on 2018 and wondering if you could have done some things better?  Maybe you planned to lose some weight but didn’t because life got in the way or your job is too stressful and you are working too many hours.  Bottom line, you had great intentions maybe even set some resolutions but after a few weeks other things became more important.

One thing that you can do to put more focus on your intentions and goals this is is to pick up a journal or I found this great planner called the High Performance Planner.  It is a great way to track how you are doing on your goals and what actions you are taking towards them. Have you determined this year is going to be different.  No more New Year’s Resolutions!  Did you know that 95% of New Year’s resolutions are forgotten or fail by the end of January?  That doesn’t seem to be like a good path to go if only 5% succeed,  does it?

One of the things that I decided to do was to focus on setting intentions, goals and actions.  This planner is pretty cool because it allows you to do just that.  You set your goals and intentions in the AM and then check in to see how you did every night.

Intention is how we commit to showing up.  How we choose to be, regardless of things that might try and get in our way.  It’s the tone we decide to set for the day – will it be a good day, bad day are you excited or dreading something.  Decide how you want to approach your life.  I say decide because if you set it in your head that it is going to be a good day – chances are it will be better than the day before.

Goals are items that you actually can check off a list.  They are things that are tangible that you can work towards achieving.  An Intention without a goal is just a wish, just like goals without actions are a dream.  When you think about what you would like your life to look like in 2019, what would that be?  Maybe this year, instead of writing out a list of resolutions that have a 5% chance at success…you started dreaming big?  I have been taking some self improvement classes in 2018 and all the key speakers that I know talked about setting their intentions, creating a vision board to not only visualize those intentions but to create emotion around them as well.

Have you ever really paid attention to the thoughts you have?  Have you ever caught yourself thinking “this workout is too hard” or “I’ll eat better tomorrow” or “I don’t deserve X, Y or Z”.  It is these thoughts that hurt us the most because as the quote above tells us – what you think you become.  What if when you caught yourself thinking in the negative – you made a conscious decision to flip it to the positive?  Back to the planner that I purchased, the cool think about it is that it has spots on every page to set those positive intentions and holds you accountable by asking you to check in to see how you did every single day.
